Final Words & Verdict

If we need to sum up this monitor in one sentence it would be; a high-end gaming monitor with room for improvement. While the PG27AQDM undoubtedly impressed us as a gaming and HDR monitor, we must acknowledge that it may not cater to every individual or workflow; it possesses certain limitations. Nonetheless, this particular monitor is targeted towards a gaming and multimedia audience. The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM boasts impressive features, such as a striking contrast ratio, sleek form factor, and a jaw-dropping 240Hz refresh rate, making it a captivating choice for gamers. However, its average brightness, and subpar colour accuracy may disappoint creative professionals who require precision in colour reproduction. Additionally, Asus does not provide sought-after extras like USB-C connectivity or KVM features. These drawbacks somewhat curb the monitor's allure. Nonetheless, for those seeking an exceptional gaming monitor with impressive HDR without the need for exact color fidelity, the PG27AQDM remains a superb option.

The UFO test showcases no shortcomings with a refresh rate of 240Hz, providing a visually impeccable sample and holding performance at 240Hz.

Screen Size 27-inch
Resolution 2560×1440 (QHD)
Panel Type IPS
Aspect Ratio 16:9 (Widescreen)
Refresh Rate 240Hz
Response Time 1ms (GtG)
Adaptive-Sync Yes

Boasting a 26.5-inch QHD OLED display and a remarkable 240Hz refresh rate, the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM monitor is perfectly tailored for games though. Also, and I have to state this; the pixel density is optimal for delivering crisp and clear visuals, providing exceptional detail without the excessive demands of a 4K UHD display. The advantage here is that a lower cost graphics card can suit your needs really well. In the above example a GeForce RTX 4070.

Concluding

In all reality an exceptional HDR experience is provided by the ROG Swift OLED, particularly when enjoying cinematic games like Cyberpunk 2077, Far Cry and F1 you will be flabbergasted by the performance and gaming quality output (especially in HDR). The fast response times of this OLED monitor really do elevate the HDR experience to new heights. Motion clarity is also a huge plus for this monitor, next to that as a backup you have Adaptive Sync in the form of G-Sync for Nvidia GPUs and FreeSync for AMD GPUs. Asus provides extra features like an fps counter, timer, and genre-specific presets, these may not be critical selling points for the average gamer.

The monitor displays remarkable contrast capabilities as here, it's OLED, especially in low-light conditions. The 'Uniform Brightness' feature allowed it to produce around 250 nits of brightness without the typical ABL effect reaching 300 nits at default settings, while the screen surface managed glare effectively. Although some users may find this appealing, the screen surface somewhat limits the potential for sharpness and vividness compared to alternative matte and glossy displays. Gamma tracking was off, causing dark details to be dimmedand overly bright shades to merge. However, these shortcomings were not destructive enough to compromise the contrast experience, which remains superior to OLED. The monitor's color consistency was outstanding, offering vibrant SDR colors with the option to moderate them using the highly adaptable sRGB mode. The DCI-P3 coverage also allowed for properHDR results; despite color inaccuracies we recorded 97% DCI-P3 coverage. The 240Hz refresh rate and low input lag of the monitor ensures smooth experience, exhibiting exceptional pixel responsiveness without noticeable overshoot. It is safe to state that finding fault with the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM gaming monitor is a challenging task, barring the need for occasional maintenance of the OLED panel to reduce the risk of screen burn-in, as the monitor does have several failsaves for that. Undoubtedly, the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM stands out as one of the top-notch gaming monitors available in the market today. We do have to mention this though, OLED may not be the ideal choice for everyone, and an LCD display could better suit those who primarily use their desktops for work, albeit play around with the uniform brightness setting and see if that helps you out.

The color accuracy straight out of the box was very average, Asus may be able to resolve colour-related concerns through future firmware updates, so if you need color precision for your work, then this monitor is not the best options. The ROG Swift OLED presents one of the finest gaming experiences available, merging the distinctive HDR capabilities of OLED with the outstanding motion clarity found in esports monitors. For those seeking a 27-inch OLED gaming monitor, the ROG Swift OLED 27 is a recommended choice.
