The Motherboard Showcase aka the mother load

ASUS P8Z68-V-Pro

Right, there we have the P8Z68-V PRO which quite honestly is nearly identical to the P8P67 PRO as both share an identical color scheme, a nearly indistinguishable layout and a common feature set. That's a nice looking motherboard alright. The focus on this motherboard is dark, rugged, sturdy looking design whilst remaining competitive with pricing.

We dig the three tone (black/white/blue) design a lot, dark colored PCBs are the trend these days. What immediately catches the eyes are the sheer looks and heatsinks sitting on top of the chipset.

We received the final retail sample and as such it comes packed with a "decent" product bundle, its a little scarce on the extras though. Among the gear inside the kit you'll find the following:

  • 1 x Motherboard
  • 1 x 2-Way SLI Bridge
  • 1 x 2-in-1 ASUS Q-Connector Kit
  • 3 x 2-in-1 SATA signal cables
  • 1 x 2-in-1 SATA 6G cables
  • 1 x 2-port USB2.0 + ESATA module
  • 1 x I/O Shield
  • USB 3.0 Bracket (can be connected to the motherboard directly)
  • Manual
  • Driver CD

That's it really, keep in mind that ASUS tried hard to keep this motherboard affordable. The extras you need to seek in the overall design and components usage, which is impressive all by itself.

Notable features include 8x SATA connections (4x SATA2 and 4x SATA3), 3x USB 2.0 internal headers, 1x USB 3.0 internal header, 3x PCIe x16 slots (1x at x16, the other at x8 and the final one at x4), 2x PCIe x1 slots as well as two legacy PCI slots. The mobo has DDR3 2200 MHz support straight out of the BIOS, USB 3.0 and SATA 6G. We'll cover it all though, let's begin with the IO panel.
