The motherboard follows a standard ATX form factor. The motherboard is located in the premium range of motherboards for the Ryzen Gen 3 and Gen 4 (5000 series) desktop processor product stack.  The ASUS ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Extreme is a powerful gaming mobo with a lot going for it. There isn't much to dislike about the motherboard, which is a relief. It's the perfect board for anyone who has a large chassis with a plethora of front-panel USB ports, more than three M.2 SSDs, an extremely powerful Ryzen 9 processor, and plans to build their own unique water-cooling solution to keep everything inside a certain temperature range.

The Ryzen 2000, 3000, and 5000 series of processors are fully supported by the motherboard itself, as is the Ryzen 3000 series. You can install DDR4 RAM at speeds of up to 5GHz, with a total capacity of up to 128GB (2.5GHz x2). Dual-GPU configurations from NVIDIA and AMD are fully supported by the two PCIe 4.0 x16 slots on the motherboard. You also have five M.2 slots (three on the motherboard and two on the extension card), three of which are capable of running at PCIe 4.0 speeds, and a total of nine M.2 slots total.

Physical buttons for safe booting, retrying a BIOS configuration, and switching to a different BIOS are available for experimentation. And sure, water cooling will be required to get the most out of your processor.

The ASUS ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Extreme can regulate the pump, radiator fans (two headers can supply up to 4A of electricity), and even monitor water temperatures and flow rate using a unique water-cooling loop designed specifically for it.

Many motherboards today have metal shrouds covering the M.2 slots, which is also the case with this particular model. The M.2 slot at the very top of the device is buried under the 2-inch OLED panel.

In the same way that the other two M.2 slots are easily accessible, ASUS has designed the SSD to be secured to the board without the use of any tools, which is a fantastic innovation. Thermal pads are also present below and above the primary M.2 drive, as well as below and above the secondary M.2 drive.
