Asetek VapoChill LS review (sub-zero cooling) - Page 4

Okay my friends, let's start of the actual review of this kit. We'll show you the entire shebang including package, components, preparation, installation and obviously a heft overclocking session.

The Vapochill LightSpeed Kit

The VapoChill LS kit (LS from now on) contains everything you need to install the LS on a system running either an AMD Socket 754/939/940 or Intel Socket 478 system. Next to the VapoChill unit itself the following:

  1. 1 x Instruction manual
  2. 1 x Mounting kit for socket 754/939/940/478
  3. 1 x Chillcontrol circuit board
  4. 1 x Bag of assorted temperature probes and USB cable

The Asetek VapoChill LightSpeed is compatible to the following motherboard types: AMD K8 (socket 754, 939 & 940), Intel P4 (socket 478) and Intel P4 (socket 775) optional CPU kit required. Here we see the clamshell  and back plate that in a later stage will be mounted onto the processor & mainboard. Don't worry, you are on Guru3D.com .. we'll show you everything.

The CPU kit itself and a heap of accessories like insulating pads, heaters, clamshell enclosure, and related fasteners.

Above you are looking at heaters. The LS is taking up so much heat that at certain spots you could get condense which is a big no-no for an electrical circuit. You balance that out by heating up that area a little bit. Also you'll receive plenty of thermal paste not only to guide that heat but again to prevent condensation of for example your processor.

The kit includes an owners manual and CPU kit installation guide, a ChillControl PCB board (the brains of the unit), heaters, wiring. Strangely enough not included is Asetek's ChillControl software. Asetek requires you to download the latest version from their web site, so remember to download it prior to installing the unit okay ? So pretty much the VapoChill unit comes with all the necessary manuals and documentations needed to get it up and running. The manual unfortunately is in copied black and white and images are hard to look at. At this price level I really don't understand how expensive it can be for Asetek to include a manual in full color.

Furthermore the manual is highly detailed, complete with pictures, instructions explain in detail the step-by-step procedure for installing the VapoChill LightSpeed to your system.

Asetek VapoChill LS review (sub-zero cooling)
To go way beyond a normal overclock .. you need to cool that CPU below zero degrees C and that's where the Asetek LS comes in. It's the most expensive and noisiest cooling solution around. It's difficult to install as you'll need to mod your case, you'll have to do crazy stuff with your CPU ... but the result really is simple, you can cool down the processor with a -54 Degrees C cooling block on that AMD heatspreader and that my friends is such a fun experience you won't believe it.
