Overclocking
Overclocking test
The Gigabyte motherboard we used for our overclocking test was a bit harder to tweak with than thee ASUS one used in the 3970X review. With 24 cores and the default temps, we have seen, we made the call to overclock, but not with added voltages in order to keep that temperature in line. An all-core overall clock will drop towards, say, 3600 MHz if the load is substantial and long. So even tweaking 4000 MHz on all cores, would help in such a scenario. At default voltages, we can reach a clock speed of 4.0, however, 40.5 and 4.1 GHz crashed. We likely need more voltage and, for now, I find that a no-go. We applied a simple 240mm LCS kit from Enermax. We previously scored 13565 points in CB20 MT and now reach 13676 points. So that is marginal at best. In its current form and this mobo, I'd leave things as they are and don't overclock.
