Right let's have a further look at the product while I'll highlight some interesting features. To provide Wi-Fi 6E, Asus opted for a MediaTek MT7922 instead of the more common Intel AX211, likely due to the AMD-Nvidia-focused design. However, the transfer rates and performance are still steady and reliable. We'll test out all WIFI bands and LAN throughput later on this review.
The 2023 model uses the same 240 Hz BOE NE173QHM-NZ2 IPS panel as the 2022 model, which offers speedy response times, full DCI-P3 colors, and a decent contrast ratio suitable for both graphics editing and gaming. No HDR though. As for the webcam, Asus installed a 1 MP sensor instead of a higher resolution 2 MP or 5 MP sensor, which is a bit disappointing.
While the Scar 17 has a solid selection of ports, Asus isn't using the available space effectively. Some ports are located around the back of the machine, rghe right side is completely empty even, and not a single USB port is to be found there. Likely cooling is routed through the sides, and with these components, ASUS will need quite a bit of cooling capacity. We'll check that out with FLIR imaging though.
Powered on, you'd expect your normal laptop, but on most fronts, this excels on anything in performance. BTW a bit difficult to see, but at the bottom a LED stripe bar (AURA compatible) delivers a nice RGB effect (configurable). Other than that, the laptop does not offer heaps of bling. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
