Performance - PCIe Gen4 NVMe NAND Storage

PCIe NVMe SSD Performance

With this platform moving from PCIe 3.0 to Gen 4.0 we have seen some really wicked announcements. How could we not bring you a bit of a preview of what you may expect of NVMe NAND storage? On this page behold the awesomeness that is the Corsair MP600 with Phison 5016-E16 controller. Straight from the factory, the packaging wasn't even finished with a retail box. Being NVMe PCIe Gen4 x4 based, it is going to haul some azz in numbers.

Corsair MP600 2TB - You can clip on the included heatsink and thermal pad - or just pop it under your motherboard heat spreader.

The unit we received holds 2TB and, of course, we'll be reviewing it in-depth in a separate article. However, for the Ryzen 3000 launch review, we owe it to you to include some numbers, right? Imagine that, M.2, a small form factor add-in SSD at crazy fast speeds. M.2 links directly to your PCIe lanes and, as such, is an interface with much more available bandwidth. You can expect performance in the upper 4950 MB/s and 4250MB/s in sequential reading and writing, these numbers are actually below the real-world perf based on benchmarks. Right, let me stop typing and show you some numbers, eh?

Boom! There we go with Crystal Diskmark, tremendous performance right there. Sequential reads reach 5 GB/s with 4 GB/s writes.

Above, a block file test, our test software can hardly deal with the numbers really, but man... the future of NAND storage is sweet alright.

What can I say? You insert it as a simple M.2 unit, you start using it, and I can honestly say: it just works :-) Just very impressive, and for now this kind of storage performance is only available on Ryzen X570 and Ryzen 3000 based platforms. Of course, sustained performance only says so much, but still, daaumn bro.
