The Acer Predator XG270HU 144Hz Monitor

So we received a FreeSync capable monitor last week. It is the Acer Predator XG270HU (144Hz). Let me first state that the model we received is a final retail sample.

Gamers have been bothered by what screen to purchase, 1080P is the norm, but the gaming aficionado's REALLY like WHQD at its lovely 2560x1440 monitor resolution. With the Acer Predator XG270HU they get a bit of the best of both worlds really, higher-resolutions (WHQD) with the fast and low latency performance of TN (Twisted Nematic) and compatible with AMD FreeSync.

  • Size: 68,6 cm(27 in) 16:9, Resolution: 2.560x1.440 WQHD
  • 1 ms, 144Hz Panel: TN
  • 1x DVI, 2x DP 1.2a, 1x HDMI 2.0
  • Speakers built-in 2x2W
  • Edge to Egde design
  • Power Consumption 42 Watt
  • LED Backlit

A quick note, if you like to purchase a FreeSync monitor then make sure your Radeon card is compatible, initially the 280 / 290 series only and from our understanding starting in april more models will be supported. We do assume you got the proper gear already. The Acer Predator XG270HU 144Hz Monitor arrives in a large, full colour box.

Specs look good:

  • 2560 x 1440 resolution
  • 1ms G2G response time
  • 144Hz max refresh rate
  • 1000:1 contrast ratio
  • 350 cd/m2 brightness
  • 170/160 viewing angles
  • 16.7m colour depth (6-bit+FRC)
  • sRGB gamut
  • W-LED backlight

So a TN screen might not be our favorite type of panel, but it is a fast little fracker. One nice advantage is that the monitor is 144 Hz capable, and as such we will test it at that (now maximum dynamic) refresh rate. The XG270HU is the world’s first gaming monitor with an edge-to-edge frameless display which maximizes viewing area and provides a more seamless viewing experience for multi-monitor setups.

A quick 1ms response time assures that actions or dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without smearing or ghosting effects. Built with post-consumer recycled ABS plastic, this monitor adorns the characteristic Acer gaming identity with a bold orange strip along the bottom horizontal frame and also outlines the base stand. For easy connectivity, the XG270HU includes HDMI 2.0, DVI, and DisplayPort 1.2a.
