Core i7 965 processor @ 3750 MHz

For our second test we are going to look at the cooling performance of the kit with an average overclock. This quad core processor is now overclocked towards 3750 MHz (Turbo mode) with the core voltage increased.

  • Processor clocks at 3600 MHz = 3750 in Turbo mode
  • Processor voltage 1.4v

In an idle status we see the processor roughly hover at 40 Degrees C  (104 Fahrenheit). Once we start to stress the processors cores all at once at 100% utilized for a longer timeframe, we reach roughly 72 Degrees C / 161 F. This cooling solution is fine for a fairly decent overclock, and remember we have set the Reserator to LOW performance mode, no noise.

Also we do not have any power saving features enabled. This CPU is set up in such a manner it will not clock down or anything (we do this for our benchmarking tests)

Alphacool NexXxoS XP Bold HIGHFLOW CPU Cooler for Socket 1366

So let's place things in perspective. The 3750 MHz overclock is a fair one which is extremely reasonable for the most of you. But let's take it up one notch higher. At 4 GHz.
