Running towards 3.5 GB/s with RGB

ADATA is back in the house, this round with the S40G. The M.2. SSD is based on NVMe 1.3 and yes, you've read it right .. has an RGB cover applied, customizable by the way using ADATA proprietary software.

The Spectrix S40G will become available in volumes sizes from 256GB running towards 1 TB.  The hardware behind the SSD I do find interesting, as the controller used is the Realtek RTS5762, a controller that never has crossed our paths before. ADATA claims the driveSSD can take you to the 3.5 GB/s sequential read speeds, as well as sequential writes, speeds up to 3 GB/s. They make that happen thanks to an SLC written buffer, but you know it, once that runs dry performance will go back to TLC. These drives are rated for 390K random read and 380K random write IOPS, which would be impressive, if true. 

The SSD is a Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe 1.3) M.2 form factor SSD, it has been fitted with vertically stacked NAND TLC. The performance numbers of a proper SATA3 SSD offers these days are simply excellent, but with the more niche NVMe SSDs you can easily quadruple performance, which offers serious numbers. Endurance and reliability are a main concern these days, the XPG Spectrix S40G RGB SSDs are covered with a five-year warranty and are rated for 160 TB (256 GB), 320 TB (512 GB), or 640 TB (1 TB) written, depending on the drive's capacity. And yes, that's a rather shy value, isn't it? The unit follows a smaller M.2 2280 form factor (8cm) so it will fit on most ATX motherboards capable of M.2 just fine.
