Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/02/2010 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

The time has come for Intel to debut a new line of mainstream 32nm processors, which we have all learned to recognize under the codename 'Clarkdale', the new CPUs will be aimed at the mainstream desktop PC segment and will complement the chip maker's Core i3 and Core i5 line of products. The Intel processor lineup will include the Core i3 530 and 540 models, as well as the Core i5 650, 660, 661, and 670, which will be featured with Hyper-Threading, 4MB of L3 cache and support for dual-channel DDR3-1333 memory. Well, that and an integrated GPU as well of course. Guru3D will put the Core i5 650, 660 and 661 to the test.

Phenom II X4 965 BE revision C3 review 5

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/03/2009 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
AMD today updates their most high-end processor to a new revision, the Phenom II X4 965 BE processor with stepping C3 -- and this new model is all about energy efficiency. The revised Phenom II X4 965 BE processor has not only a much better TDP (peak Wattage at 125W coming down from 140W) but overall much better power management thanks to the fact that hardware C1E is now implemented in the CPU, allowing the processor to for faster switching of power states and makes it more efficient. Typically with such a feature enforced it lower performance a little, but... with a proper BIOS AMD claims there's no real impact on performance. Read article

Athlon II X3 435 processor review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 10/19/2009 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Get this, a budget triple core processor that is clocked at nearly 3 GHz priced at roughly 55~60 EUR. The idea alone already oozes value, as whether or not we like to admit it, the current sweet spot in processors really is in-between two and four logical CPU cores. Today we'll be looking at such a triple core processor, the Athlon II X3 435 processor which is clocked at 2.9 GHz. Like other Athlon II processors, model 435 doesn't have Level 3 cache, and should not perform as well as the more expensive and powerful Phenom II X3 family. However in pure numeric tests the 435 beats Phenom II X3 720. Meet Rana ... Read article

Today Intel are introducing the P55 motherboard chipset and no less than three new Nehalem based Lynnfield processors, with many more to follow in the upcoming months. Today's product releases are targeted at the higher segment of the mainstream market; what you read about today can hardly be called cheap or 'very' affordable, with one exception. Two out of the three Lynnfield processors introduced today are actually positioned and classified in the Core i7 range of processors, and just one processor is an actual Core i5 series processor. Ladies and gents, let's meet the Core i5 750, Core i7 860 and Core i7 870 in an in-depth review.

Today AMD is releasing two processors in the Phenom II line-up, the Phenom II 955BE and the Phenom II X4 945 processor. Both processors can be considered and positioned in AMDs high-end segment, yet will be priced friendly. Yields are good, clock frequencies go up, performance goes up. And that's nice as the Phenom II series processors offer great performance for the money you have to lay down on the table. AMD Phenom series processors are slowly ripening, and are aging like fine wine (they get even better over time). Guru3D brings you an in-depth performance review and architectural overview on both these processors. Oh yea .. and we'll overclock the living daylights out of it as well. Read article

AMD Phenom II 940 and 920 test. AMD releases the new Phenom II processors. Now manufactured at a much smaller fabrication processes, 45 nanometer, and has different amounts of cache. The result... their processors can now run at 3.0 GHz fairly easy, run cool and still have enough headroom for a nice tweak or two. Pretty significant, pretty interesting. Read article

ECS Atom 330 Dual Core P945GC review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 09/18/2008 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Take this mainboard from ECS. It comes with integrated Dual Core Atom 330 processor. It has integrated sound, 10/100 Ethernet and integrated graphics. Really all you need to do is insert a slice of DDR2 533 memory and connect a HD, and you are on the web ... browsing at fairly normal speeds, listening to a songs, watching a DVD ... heck it all works fine on that Intel Atom 330 for sure. Next to that, the power consumption is obviously amazing. The platform completely maxed out merely utilizes 55 Watts, and half of that your PSU will account for all by itself. Read article

It's April 2008 and AMD released their Phenom X4 50-series processors, with an all new fixed B3 core, hopefully they can now leave the past behind them and move forward with a processor that can actually start competing with the competition. So get that in your brain real tight, the biggest deficit of that B2 revision processor, is now fixed in the B3 edition, the deletion of the TLB erratum. Read article

AMD 780G & Athlon X2 4850e (ECS A780GM-A)

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 04/02/2008 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Granted, usually I'm not the one to get excited about budget integrated mainboards. But at the CeBIT AMD announced their 780G chipset, and for the first time in history I was pretty excited about the technology. In addition to releasing the low-power 55nm RS780 chipset AMD has also brought forward another energy efficient pile 'o transistors under the name of Athlon X2 4850e. We'll take a look at that one as well. Read article

See, a Core 2 Extreme X6800 is pretty much the fastest desktop processor in the world, yet adding two more cores gives you the absolute best of both worlds. Get the highest stock clock speed Intel offers for the best performance in lightly multithreaded (or single threaded) applications, and a total of four cores for those heavy multitasking or CPU intensive multithreaded scenarios. Really, you can't lose there now can you ? Read article

CoolIT FreeZone CPU cooler review

So the CoolIT FreeZone is not a 100% water-cooling system as you and I know. Unlike most similar products, the Freezone doesn't use a radiator. Instead, it uses its proprietary Chiller module which simply are the TECs or peltiers elements to chill the liquid coolant. By doing so it provides far greater thermal efficiency. Read article
