Cooler Master HAF 922 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/12/2009 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
The HAF 922 with it's near identical name and setup resembles a lot to it's bigger brother the HAF 932. The 922 however is a mid-tower while the 932 is a full tower. Don't expect the 922 to be a "dried up" version of the 932 though; it actually offers some improvements, especially when it comes to cable management. The HAF 922 is a good blend of a nice design, yet comes with pretty wicked yet silent cooling and then all the little extra's like decent cable management, removable drive trays for your HDDs, tool less insertion of say a DVD-RW drive and what we like to see very much, something as simple as an opening in the motherboard back tray so you can swap out a CPU cooer backplate without the need of an invasive procedure to remove the entire motherboard. It's what Cooler Master does well, the HAF meets the requirements in ease of use and design at an affordable price. Read article

Corsair Obsidian 800D review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/05/2009 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Corsair has a reputation to deliver products in the somewhat more high-end region, they set the bar really high when it comes to enthusiast hardware and tend to really think things through. As such, when the first ideas started to float in the coffee room in a building about a Corsair Chassis, the R&D team put together some great minds and did not at all look at building a chassis, no, they very likely reversed roles; what would you guys like to see or need when building your dream chassis? Their first ever PC chassis is called the Obsidian 800D, and it is without any shame I dare to state that this is among the best ever PC cases I personally have ever tested. Yes, this chassis is marvelous. Read article

PC cases (a chassis) come in many varieties and over the years we certainly have reviewed a good share of them. One name that constantly comes back with new designs targeted at a gaming audience is NZXT. The offer a wide range of gaming related PC cases on the market and surely we have seen them grown a lot ever since we reviewed their first chassis many years ago. Without further ado let me introduce you to the most difficult to photograph chassis of all times, as it is highly glossy and reflective, the Guardian 921 with sheer nice looks and a very nice price. SmoothCreations LANShark!

Posted by: Brann Mitchell on: 06/29/2009 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
SmoothCreations delivers another thrilling custom computer. The LANShark is small, light, and fast. While it is plenty fast, its overclocking potential is limited by its cooling, however. The aim towards durabilty may compromises its full speed, but the custom paint job totally makes up for it. Read article

SmoothCreations Neptune Xtreme Machine

Posted by: Brann Mitchell on: 03/31/2009 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Listen up buttercup, King Neptune just mopped the floor. What I thought was going to be a custom case review turned out to a full-on bad-ass PC system to review. OK, I'm game. While it might not be the ultimate to the hardcore, SmoothCreations built an awesome machine, worthy of praise and attention. Read article

SunBeamtech Acrylic HTPC chassis review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/25/2009 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
A review on the SunBeamtech Acrylic HTPC chassis. A fully functional HTPC chassis, with proper cooling, front panel, UV lit fans all at a very sharp price of just 79 USD. Sunbeamtech offers their Acrylic HTPC case in two versions: a clear non-UV reagent acrylic (HTPC-T) or using a blue UV-reagent acrylic (HTPC-HUVB), the model we reviewed. Read article

Project-X - Building a new Guru3D.com test rig

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/28/2008 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
X58 as you guys know can support both SLI and Crossfire, allowing one PC to test both, and for a reviewer that's pretty wicked really as we do not have to build multiple similar configured systems. One to rule them all. We figured, let's make a new system and go a little crazy. So the guys over at Smooth Creations decided to help us out by taking care of a custom paintjob. I wanted, blue Guru3D colored flames with our logo stamped in there, with a black coating. Read article

Hiper Media Center HTPC HMC-2K53A-A3 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 04/20/2008 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Hiper recently released a new model of their slim-line HTPC barebone chassis, with VFD (display) fully integrated mainboard and PSU. Pretty much you drop a HD, a slice of memory and a processor in this system and you are good to go since the mainboard even has support for multi-channel audio, VGA & HDMI output as it's based on the reputable AMD 690G chipset (mainboard with integrated graphics card). And next to all that, it even comes with a pretty decent remote control. Read article

CoolerMaster Cosmos S review

CoolerMaster today introduced a new PC case/chassis updated from their Cosmos line of products. This unit is based on a standard Cosmos 1000 with some attention-grabbing new modifications targeted at the high-end and enthusiast consumer with a diminutive amount of money to spare. It's huge, it's profound, it's impressive, it's striking and it's called the Cosmos S; with the S for Sport. Read article

Zalman HD160XT Plus HTPC Chassis review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 02/18/2008 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
A PC in your living room however has to look nice, be silent and functional; and that's quite a challenge as today's computer parts are often noisy and create lot's of heat. Building a HTPC surely isn't an easy task as you need to carefully handpick all components used. For optimal cooling and nice looks today we land at the premises of Zalman. They recently released their Zalman HD160XT Plus HTPC chassis. A seriously gorgeous looking HTPC chassis, made out of aluminum and with a small 7" Zero Defect LCD touch screen (no dead pixels). NZXT Rogue SSF chassis review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/26/2008 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
NZXT released their first SSF chassis under the name Rogue. Quite an interesting name as is has several meanings, in biology however Rogue equals "a usually inferior organism, esp. a plant, varying markedly from the normal". I think it's safe to apply that description to the chassis we are testing today. A chassis that for the bigger part is a aluminum chassis guaranteeing optimal cooling, low noise levels and since it's NZXT .. looks to die for. Read article

SunBeamTech UFO Acrylic Cube Case review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/01/2007 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Face it, it's short from stunning how many cases there are out there to pick from. So why Acryllic you ask ? Well .. ehm I dunno. it's just looking so damn cool. See if you forget about the fact that kit's the worst material to use as a chassis cooling wise, incredibly "not" handy to work with, scratchable, smears everywhere and oy .. the fingerprints. But all that aside .. if you get the wiring and lighting right, an Acrylic chassis might be one of the coolest things you've ever built. Read article

Spire Pininfarina SP-ATX-PALU Chassis

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/18/2006 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
So once I was on the Spire website to have a peek at that PSU I noticed that they were about to release another product... a PC chassis and it's designed by Pininfarina. So I shouted out; "YES!". Now again let's talk about chances and statistical anomalies. Chances are that 70% of you know who Pininfarina is, yet statistically 83% has heard of the name Pininfarina at the very least. Alphacool Ready2Go Stacker (Passive)

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 10/15/2006 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Alphacool can deliver pre-fitted and modified PC Cases with water-cooling (prefilled and leak tested) installed. Today Guru of 3D will test the Coolermaster Stacker Silver with preinstalled water-cooling from their Ready2Go series of products. Pretty much install your components and you are good to go. The beauty of this beast is the fact that it is passive water-cooling, the only thing connected to the power circuit is an inaudible pump. That means this system just does not make any noise, at least not that we can hear. Read article

Ultra Aluminus ATX Mid-Tower Case

Posted by: Dave Crewe on: 04/21/2006 06:00 AM [ 0 comment(s) ]
This particular case design has been around for a long while now and has been highly successful. Whilst previous incarnations may not have been particularly fantastic feature wise, and weren't particularly appealing aesthetics wise, they were extremely well built, large, and had great airflow. The main downside was that they were mostly made of steel and weighed an absolute tonne! They could also be considered a little boring, but it depends what you're looking for. Now, what Ultra have done with their Aluminus case is to take an old favourite and revamp it. Read article

Ultra X2-Connect 550w Power Supply

This PSU is the successor to the original X-Connect and Ultra is hoping it's going to be just as successful. This PSU will appeal to all the majority of the modding freaks out there as it has a flashy look to it, windows, blue illumination and a modular cable system. There aren't too many PSUs out there that can boast such features. Read article
