AMD Ryzen RAM scaling - performance effect in games 5

Posted by: Krzysztof Hukalowicz on: 06/19/2020 02:08 PM [ 82 comment(s) ]

The impact of memory timings and frequency on AMD Ryzen 3000 systems in games has been a topic of discussion. In this article we'll zoom in on specifically that. See, AMD made a change in 3rd generations Ryzen, aka "Zen 2" processors, splitting the memory controllers from the die that contains CPU cores. The DDR4 memory controller is located in the processor's 12 nm I/O controller die.

We review the Sabrent Rocket Q 1TB, a fast M.2 SSD that you can purchase for 129 USD these days. Labeled with Reads and Writes in the 3200/2000 MB/s ranges there however is an oddity to be found with this series, as that Q in the naming implies a substantial difference. Wanna know what that is?
