Last week Codemasters released a two level playable demo allowing you to play the game on both DX9 and DX11 (if you have a Radeon HD series 5000 card that is). Also integrated is a benchmark mode, very handy. Now we'll not be using the standard benchmark yet our own scripted test run in the Ensenada Port circuit set in Baja California level where we can drive through sand, mud and water to measure the most prominent DX11 features like DX11 Hardware tessellation, Geometry instancing and displacement mapping -- plus obviously more complex shader usage. let's go check out both the DX9 and DX11 image quality and performance. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic PC review

Posted by: Mike Sowerby on: 12/04/2006 03:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Being English, you’d think I would be used to the rain by now, but every year, as the days draw in, become altogether gloomier and more depressing it’s easy to get frustrated (and wet!). It was on one such morning, that a package dropped onto the door mat. Eagerly unwrapping it, I stood staring at a gate into a world of devilry, sorcery, Orcs and villains. ‘Ahhh....’ I thought to myself... that’s just perfect for a winter escape! So, in I jumped (well, actually I pressed the ‘on’ button), readying myself for a heroic quest against all that is evil, and a self gratifying amount of time slaying foes by my bloodied sword... Orcs of the world beware! Read article

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Posted by: Mike Sowerby on: 04/22/2006 07:00 AM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Cyrodiil is a dangerous place, enter it with caution as it is in a dimension all of its own, where 5 hours seems like 10 minutes and an unexpected adventure lies around every corner. Each of these adventures is so compelling as to deprive you of the comfort of your own bed, offering some new interest. What’s more, the freedom of this game is staggering. Go buy and sell, do a few quests, some treasure hunting in one of the many caves or mines, explore the wonders of the land. The list goes on, and that’s before you even touch on the main quest. A hint at just how expansive this game is appears at the beginning with the fantastic character creation tools. I must have spent over half an hour or more playing around with every conceivable detail of my characters appearance and I’m sure many others could spend far longer. It is also here that the story begins. With you, as seems to be traditional in Elderscrolls games, starting your journey in a prison cell. As luck would have it, the Emperor happens to be passing through for reasons I won’t divulge here, and releases you from your captive state. Read article

Quake 4

Posted by: Thorsten Finck on: 01/27/2006 09:00 AM [ 0 comment(s) ]
First off, who am I kidding, I’m willing to bet that if you are a hard core gamer you have already played this game and you are only reading this to see if you agree with it or not. For those of you who haven’t played this yet, no matter if I said this was the worse game ever made, you will still go out and buy it. Why? Because it’s Quake and it has a history of being a game where the strong survives and blood and body parts fly. Very few developers other than id software can do this especially when one considers that it has been 6 years now since Quake III.  Read article

3DMark06 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/18/2006 09:00 AM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Last year when 3DMark 05 was released (February I think) it became the standard for DirectX 9 benchmarking and it was well received by the consumer and industry. In the months following I however honestly felt the benchmark was good but not yet perfect as some very important features where left out. 3DMark06 entails all the new features and we will take a brief look at this exciting new update of the software. I say update because in essence 3Dmark06 is 3Dmark05, with a complete overhaul of features and exciting end-result. Read article

Call of Duty 2 Review

Posted by: Mike Sowerby on: 01/16/2006 09:00 AM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Developer Infinity Ward obviously doesn’t believe in small things, but rather aims towards grand scale of epic proportions. The first Call of Duty did this for the most part with some of the most immense battles and a scale and level of intensity never before witnessed on a PC. This has helped set the Call of Duty series above the rest of the crowded World War II genre. Now, Infinity Ward have released their sequel. Something much bigger, more refined and hopefully much better. Read article
