Let me ask you a question, how many times have you installed that snazzy new
detonator driver, or installed a new program only to find out that it didn’t
like your system, and you suddenly cant boot up your system? Chances are a very
large amount. While you sit there, cursing at your PC, you suddenly realize, you
haven’t backed up any of your important files, and you curse even more, and
maybe you give the tower a kick or two. (Well I know I have). These days were
speed and time is valuable, you really have no time sit and weed out the files
you want to keep and burn it on a cd, or stick it in that 2nd hard drive you
have in there. Well, fret no more, today I will look into backups made EZ,
Backup My PC, by Veritas.
Backup My PC, provides, an easy graphical interface into backing up all those
media files you have downloaded, or those all important documents, heck,
everything single thing in your hard drive, given you have enough cd’s or extra
hard drive space to fit it all in. With a few simple clicks, you can be on your
way to backing up your system, while you surf the net, or while your out, doing
real world stuff.

A feature of Backup My PC, is a system wide backup, you can either do this via
the handy wizard, or if you’re feeling adventurous, the non-wizard route. To put
simply, the wizard asks you if you want to back up everything in your system,
name the file it will output, select where you want to put it, and name the
project, and back up everything it will do. Within seconds, your whole system is
being backed up. Depending on the amount of data you have, it can take a while.
Now, selecting on where to put all this backed up information is quite varied.
This also depends on what you have in you system. You can either put it in a cd,
DVD+r, magnetic media (Zip, Jaz), and or another hard drive. It also gives you
the option to span, so, you can use up multiple disc’s. This can be very handy,
if you have decided to put everything on discs.
The other feature is a bit on the longer process. Longer in which you can pick
out which file or files you want to back up. This is much like the sit and and
pick process, but it will output it into a single file, instead of having
hundreds, if not thousands of files.
Another feature that this program offers is the emergency back up. This will
allow you to restore without having to back into windows. This is done via
formatting a number of floppy discs (6 to be exact). I was not able to get this
particular feature working as it kept freezing at one point.
