The profile
Somewhere in March of
this year I was walking on the CeBIT exhibit in Hannover/Germany.
Right next to Powercolor's stand I noticed a stand with a name that
can hardly be forgotten .. 'Superpower'. recently I was doing some
research on the FM801 sound chipset from Fortemedia and once again
stumbled into the name Superpower. That's it, I got curious about this
company and started doing a little research on the them. I quickly
found out that they are producing HQ mainboards, videocards and
recently modems. Reason enough to start up a little dialog with this
firm.
Superpower was
founded in 1989 (just like Skywell if memory serves me right) by Wu
Ming Wei. At that time the company was primarily a processing plant
specialized in motherboards.
It did not take them
a lot of time to figure out that there is a bigger market out there
then just motherboards. They started producing videocards as well. In
their
line-up today they have cards like 3D Typhoon (Savage 4based) and
every motherboard possible. But still
there main product is manufacturing motherboards. The company is still
growing rapidly, projected sales this year will average at 100 million
USD over a 55.75 million in 1998. Although a bit tough to find in the shops Superpower's entry
level and high-end mainboards are being distributed in Asia, North
America and Europe.
Will Superpower live
up to its name thus: reputation ?
