The Review
Soyo is a motherboard manufacturer with a stronghold in
Europe. They have been in this marksegment for many years now and are very successful. The
company originates from Taiwan. Now, why such an extensive review on a motherboard you say
? Well, Powercolor did it in December, Soyo did it in January '99. They released a
new line of motherboards with integrated sound- and graphicscard. The Intel BX based
motherboard in this review (mamma from now on) has an integrated ATi Rage 128 Pro chipset
on it and a Yamaha 740 3D soundcard.
At this time there are no other
sound/Videocard integrated mamma's from Soyo. Currently there are some projects going on
in Taiwan. But ofcourse they are pretty much secret. They probably will be equipped with
Permedia4 or TNT-2. I understand that its also possible to buy Voodoo 3 -200 chips for
integrated usage. So who knows what Soyo will bring us.
Soyo choose to make use of integrated
mamma's so that they can offer the consumer a total/all-in-one solution. This way the
consumer does not have to look into the choice of buying a Motherboard, Soundcard and or
Videocard. Ofcourse this solution is also much cheaper then buying stand alone parts.
This review will exist out of three part
and a conclusion.
