The Installation
Installation is very simple. Connect the cables to the USB device and
your USB ports. Your PC will now report the Magic TopLAN as new
device. Insert a floppy with a few drivers, follow a simple
installation procedure and restart your PC.
After the restart your
PC has a fully functional USB network. If you want to share drives
then select File and Print sharing in your network options, share a
drive and you are set to go. You can setup an entire network in 5
minutes without even opening up your PC.
The Magic TopLan can
reach speeds up to 12MBit/sec. I measured the speed a couple of times. It does a
very fast average of 350-400kb/sec. Simply wonderful.
The Magic TopLAN is
compatible with almost anything. Even the advanced users can get
maximum capability in usage, If you want to e-mail or want to share
internet access from one host then you can install for example
WinPROXY. It works like a charm.
Gaming is of course
also a important network option. To be able to play Multiplayer games
over the network you need TCP/IP and/or IPX/SPX protocol
compatability. The Magic
TopLAN installs these protocol by default so therefore you won't have
to do anything.
What can I say ? I
played Need for Speed: High stakes within 2 minutes after installation
of the device. All games I have tested worked perfectly smooth over the
network.
