Microsoft SideWinder GameVoice
Use your voice as a part of the Gaming experience
Review by Hilbert Hagedoorn

Way back in May this year I stumbled into some information about new gaming gadgets from Microsoft. It seemed that in October 2000 they would release a new set of gaming peripherals that would at least shock the gaming community a bit. One of those products that my eye caught at that time was the SideWinder GameVoice, although we have seen headsets in the past I knew at that time that this ought to be a special product since Microsoft has great resources to manufacturer a product that can be widely used at a good price. Their formula is high-volume at a low price, their product much reach the masses. Together with the Strategic Commander (read our review here)  Microsoft released SideWinder GameVoice and to our believe it will reach masses.

So what is the Microsoft SideWinder GameVoice then ?

The SideWinder GameVoice is most definitely not your usual and simple headset for listing to music and using the microphone. You connect the headset to a small piece of technology, the control panel/Command module.

This entire piece of equipment is then connected towards your soundcard and USB port. After installing the Microsoft SideWinder GameVoice software you'll be able to use this peice of equipment for two primary functions, namely:

  • Chatting over LAN/Internet

  • Mid-game Speech recognition
