Microsoft SideWinder Strategic Commander
A Special game controller for strategy games
By Hilbert Hagedoorn

Strategic CommanderRecently Microsoft introduced the SideWinder Strategic Commander, a special game controller which strategic game enthusiasts can use to easily execute complex commands. De device can be used for commands and functions that normally are used on a keyboard or mouse. The fun part is that you can use it together with a mouse or joystick. The SideWinder Strategic Commander will even allow you to record commands while playing games.

The SideWinder Strategic Commander is a completely new device that supports playing strategic games more easily. The increasing complexity of newer games will take good advantage of devices like these. The SideWinder Strategic Commander is designed in a very ergonomic way and should be controlled with your left hand. The SideWinder Strategic Commander is delivered with software that will allow you to program game-functions into a profile which you then use with the Strategic Commander. For example you can use and program essential key functions to use them easily by pressing a button on this device.

When you take a close look at the SideWinder Strategic Commander you must think .. hmm, that's a huge mouse ! In fact is actually is somewhat like that. Next to the programmable buttons the SSC (SideWinder Strategic Commander) can be moved in several ways while playing a 2D or even 3D game. When you turn the SSC you actually have the ability to rotate. Remember Sim City where it's possible to rotate but you always have to seek and push an in-game button ? Well, turn the SSC mouse and it'll rotate without a problem, smooth and swiftly. Move the Strategic Commander forward and your map will move north. A double button, which can be used with your pointing finger is used to zoom in and out . Behind six buttons under your fingers and three buttons that can be used as a shift button and three profile-switches you can program a luxury 72 command functions.
