Leadtek Winfast GeForce2 GTS

The GeForce2 GTS - What's new ?
The new GeForce is of course once powered by a NVIDIA 18 µm Process GeForce2 chipset, let us take a look on what is new and improved over the 'older' 22 µm Process GeForce 256.

It has only been 6 months ago since NVIDIA released the GeForce 256, now, once again this card has a new brother, a faster card since the core memory is faster (200 MHz), improvement's within the chipset, and the videocards now only have DDR memory.

Beyond the GigaTexel
The GTS in 'GeForce GTS' means Giga texel Shader. A Texel = Texture + Pixel. So a texel is simply a appointing a texture to a pixel. While explaining this entire concept is a bit steep material we will show you the major differenced between the GeForce 256 and the GF2 GTS. The GF 256 has a fillrate of 480 Million Texels/sec, the GF2 GTS can do an amazing 1600 MTexels/sec, a new record. However, in reality it's a bit difference.

Games or apps must make use of the so called Multi-texturing processing method if you want to reach these kind of fillrates. The GF2 is the first graphical chip that can calculate two textures per pipeline per clockcycle. While doing this you can make a sum: 4 pipelines x 200 Mhz x 2 texels = 1600 Mtexels or 1.6 Giga texels, and there you have it: Giga Texel Shader.

Luckily for us, almost all new games will make use of it ! Expect nice things in the near future.
