Bundle, Benchmarks & More

The software bundle is a little confusing. North America has a full version of King Pin and Speed busters is added as a game package. The package that I received did not have these two nor did the Box report this. I just received e-mail confirming that the rest of the globe does not have a gamepack included. It only contained the driver CD with included:

  • Drivers Win 95/98 and NT
  • Documentation
  • Monaco GP 2 Demo
  • Speed Busters Demo
  • SCARS Demo
  • Tonic Trouble Demo
  • Xing DVD-X Player (Full)
  • nVIDIA demo's

The included drivers were outdated. After a quick visit to the Guillemot website I had the latest 2.08 Drivers and had found a handy dandy over clocking util especially for the Xentor/32 video card.

I was stunned, after running several benchmarks it, that the card was not faster then the previously tested TNT2 card from Gigabyte, which is NOT an ultra version. All results where below the average TNT2 card. I was frustrated and thinking 'this cannot be possible'. I grabbed the latest 2.08 drivers from Guillemot's website in the hope that this would solve the problem. It didn't !

After this frustration (I knew that the card had to be faster then the results I had gotten) I decided to flush the Guillemot drivers and install 1.88 reference drivers from nVIDIA. (I used older 1.88 drivers for objective comparisation reasons). tataa ... I was smiling again. The performance was then outstanding and on several occasions even faster then a Voodoo3 3000.

I looped a benchmark, and have configured the card in a 175/198 configuration. It ran 24Hrs straight without any lockups or malfunctioning graphics.

Now that this driver problem has been resolved I think I'd  better present you some Benchmarks eh ?

The following measurements will be based upon the earlier mentioned system. The software that we will be using to test and compare this card is 3D Mark 99, 3D Mark 99 MAX, X-Bootmark, Final Reality 1.01 and Wizmark. All cards are measured with the same display setting. (in most cases 800x600x16Bit).

  TNT 1 GA-630 Banshee TNT 2 V3 3000 Xentor32
X BOOTMARK 7.04 7.04 15.4 16.9 17.9
FINAL REALITY 39.5 38.2 44 46.9 47.3
WIZMARK 43.1 55.3 59.2 61.6 59.7
3D MARK 99 19.4 22.7 30.49 33.03 33.4
3D MARK 99 MAX PRO   29.9 35.49   36.31

Stunning! as you can see, without a doubt the Xentor 32 is a performer. It outranks almost any card when it comes to performance, only in the the Wizmark it performs below Voodoo3. But since Wizmark originates from 3dfx that doesn't really surprise me.
