Hercules 3D Prophet 7500 All-in-Wonder

Let's take a peek at the photo's we took and the most important functions of the 3D Prophet AIW 7500.

  • Strong 2D and 3D performance boost with a RADEON 7500 GPU attached to 64MB DDR RAM,
  • a video editing studio for
    - recording video from an analog camcorder in MPEG2 format,
    - cutting rushes and adding titles with the included video edition suite,
    - recording the edited movies on your VCR.
  • A stereo TV tuner supporting all European TV standards (PAL BG/I/DK and Secam L/K),
  • DVD playback with hardware acceleration and advanced de-interlacing for crisp and smooth cinema display.

When you take a look at the board then you'll immediately notice one thing, it's build by ATI, not Hercules and most definitely not a 3d party manufacturer or subcontractor for Hercules.

This means, no nifty blue orb cooling fan, no cool blue PCB which was the signature for Hercules Graphics cards and and no blue ramsinks tat Hercules/Guillemot was the first to introduce. Thus: a little less interesting graphics card for the tweakers/overclockers among us. This is what happens when you basically have no competition with a product. It does not mean the board will be less 'cool', but the 'nifty looking board' factor surely will be missed.

In this review we'll first look into what the Radeon 7500 can do for us after which we'll take a look at the multi-media options the board can deliver. All this will be followed by a round of benchmarks and  conclusion which will make this article pretty much a feature. Here we go ..
