Last but not least, the cheapest of them all, the one we will have a good look at: GeForce4 MX420:
In an retrospective you can easily notice one thing .. there's a card in there for any budget or purpose.
The first impressions are most certainly good ones. To get an idea of what this GeForce4 MX 420 is all about we must compare it to the GeForce2 MX. It will be in the same price-range as that product and therefore is a good comparison. The new model will make the GeForce2 MX obsolete quite quickly I think. When I took a peek at the first benchmark it was obvious that this card is a budget low-range videocard.
Does it perform low-end as well then ? It depens how you look at it. In my opinion, by all means no when you compare it to the normal GeForce2 MX. The 420 boosts it selves to really nice results. Example Quake III, we where able to achieve 82 Frames per second in 1024x768x32bit at high quality settings, that's nothing to be ashamed of I think. Later on in our benchmarks we will demonstrate where this card will be performance wise as we will put it up to the test with the GeForce2 MX, GeForce3 Ti200 and Ti500. The big downside to have a low budget and when you have to buy a budget thus MX model is are features .. there is no support for eye candy like Environment mapped bump mapping and vertex or pixels shaders, they can not be found on the MX series, but then again .. it is a budget card. Let's take a brief look at the product and the specs that are GeForce4 MX 420.
