Let's put this in perspective:
| Memory
vs Frequency |
Total
bandwidth |
Videocard |
| 64bit DDR
@143MHz |
2288MB/sec |
3D Blaster MX |
| 128bit SDR memory @
166MHz |
2656MB/sec |
Normal
SDR
GeForce2 MX |
Let the record show that the memory
bandwidth for this product is slower than a normal GeForce2 MX.
If I look closely at the box it
says:
"Combined with Double Data
Rate memory that produces 2.8 GB/sec of dedicated graphics memory
bandwidth"
Whoever made that mistake or ... hmm
.. let's do a little formula:
((2x64bit) x 175MHz) : 8bit = 2800
MB/sec
Was Creative initially/originally
planning 175 MHz DDR memory ?! They probably have chosen for cheaper
memory to get this product on the market for a good price.. which is definitely
does not have to be a bad choice. However, if they would have done so
it easily could have been one of the fastest MX videocards around the
block.
Since memory bandwidth is the biggest
problem for basically any GeForce2 product this will, without a doubt
influence the performance of this videocard. It won't be huge, but definitely
not faster as we will prove in several tests ...
