Nvidia Geforce2 Pro
Estimated Price: $340
USD
Well, there are some
freaks out there that want more performance than the regular Geforce2 boards
have to offer. But
they don't got the dough for a Geforce2 Ultra. Nvidia
came to their rescue with the Geforce2 Pro, a card that definitely deserves
to be titled high-end. Although the price tag is considerably lower than
that of the GF2U, the performance is not when you compare the
price/performance ratio. The Geforce2 Pro is in fact, using the identical
chip as the Geforce 2 GTS (the core frequency is the same). The increased
performance of the Geforce2 Pro is a courtesy of it's speedy 4.6 ns memory,
which boosts up the DDR memory frequency to 200MHz (400MHz effectively) from
166MHz. This substantial increase in the memory bandwidth allows some more
of Geforce2's massive fillrate to shine. Simply put, it's fast enough to
satisfy those Friday night 70+ FPS Q3 cravings.
Pssst: you can get pretty close to Geforce2
Ultra's performance by overclocking it. But you didn't hear that from me
:)

Nvidia Geforce2 Ultra
Estimated Price: $500
USD
Nothin' feels better
than knowing you got the fastest video card on the block, but it feels even
better knowing that you
have the world's fastest consumer video card. Owners
of the Geforce2 Ultra know what I'm talking about. Initially, ATI was supposedly
releasing the Radeon MAXX and 3dfx would put the Voodoo 6000 on the market
around the time the Geforce2 Ultra was being released. But the plans for
both of those cards got canned, and the road was paved for Nvidia to claim
the high-end crown. The Geforce2 Ultra core is clocked at 250MHz
and the memory frequency at 460MHz, which adds up to simply mind boggling
performance. So how fast is it exactly? 60FPS in Quake3 at a resolution of
1600x1200 and graphical options turned up high... need I say more?
