But what about your actual favorite supported games at this time ? There's one guy on the web that started porting Half-Life and Quake II for usage with the Gun System. And hey .. it actually work pretty darn good. Visit glitterstream.net and download the Quake 2 mod and Half-life mod. I tried the glitter's GUNFRENZY! (Quake2) Mod. It is a single-player modification of Quake2 to make it compatible with the ACT LABS GS PC lightgun system. It is very easy to install. Just point the installer towards the game directory and from there on click a button on your desktop.

Here is a little paste from the man's site himself:

Getting back to the background story, I started looking for PC lightguns - and couldn't find any. There was a very old system that didn't exist anymore as far as I could tell. Other than that, nothing. I even mailed a few console lightgun manufacturers, trying to get info on whether it was possible to convert their guns for use with a PC. They were less than helpful. One reply (well, not exactly a reply). So I wrote the whole thing off.

Bizarrely, about a month or so later, I catch a press release by ACT LABS on a news site, announcing their extremely cool looking GS system (and I'm not easily impressed). I sent them a nice email on the spot, and was beta testing an early development kit within days.

What started out as a simple testbed turned into an obsession. Here is the result.

I tried out Quake2 Gunfrenzy, it really works well. It takes some time to get used to the 'handheld in your left hand and the gun in your right hand. It seriously takes some concentration. But after a while you'll get used to it. It would have been nice to see Button one and two (front button's) on another location. (below would have been a better choice from an ergonomic point of view).

Your hand will cramp after a let's say an hour of playing.

You can play and shoot games very accurate with the guns. Nice stuff indeed.

* Note - after some communication Glitter and I decided to mirror the GunFrenzy mod with some 105 MBit OC-3 server power here at Guru 3D. You can now download the mod from this page.
