ThermalTake Versa G1 and G2 entry-level chassis

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/14/2012 01:37 PM | 3 comment(s) ]

ThermalTake has relaseased two new entry-level chassis aimed at the gaming audience; the Versa G1 and the Versa G2. Both models measure 429 x 196 x 481 mm and weigh just 4.5kg, they have an all-black interior and come with one 120mm rear blue LED fan included plus room for up to five extra fans. Maximum VGA card length is 320mm and the maximum cooler height is 155mm. Each case has three 5.25" bays, one exposed 3.5" bay, five 3.5/2.5" storage bays, seven expansion slots and a front I/O panel with one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port and HD audio ports.

The main difference between both cases seem to be the design of the front panel, the interior appears to be identical.

Thermaltake, an industry leader in computer chassis, thermal solutions and peripherals, introduced a new entry-level mid-tower case: Versa G1 and Versa G2. It is ideal for home-computer builders and gamers, with enough space for high-end hardware and expansion. The ample ventilation options, cleanable air filter, and a perforated front bezel help to keep the entire system cool and dust-free.

Versa G1/G2 also features black-finished steel construction to unify the look and advanced cable management to grant a better air flow in the chassis. Versa G1/G2 combines a manageable frame size with extensive options to customize user’s computer or gaming system. With enough room for a standard ATX motherboard, long graphic cards up to 32cm such as the nVidia GTX690, six 3.5” (5 x internal & 1 x external), one internal 2.5” and three external 5.25” drive bays.

One USB 3.0 SuperSpeed port is located on the front panel for easy access and superb transfer rate. Designed for extensive usage, the ventilation of Versa G1/G2 makes a statement by including one 120mm rear exhaust fan with blue LED and the option of installing up to five more 120mm fans to help cool the components inside the chassis. The front bezel is perforated for maximum air intake, along with the cleanable air filter helps to reduce dust in the system; ensuring users equipment is efficiently cooled and reliable. Additionally, cables can be neatly tucked inside the case. Users can keep the system organized and the airflow unobstructed as seen through transparent window panel.

Seriously, what the heck? So many new, light cases have this god-awful setup - and so few of them only use one connector to get it. Can't we at least get a matched pair so we're not wasting half of two headers?

This statement:
It is ideal for home-computer builders and gamers, with enough space for high-end hardware and expansion.

Is contradicted by this statement:
the maximum cooler height is 155mm

Good luck finding a "high-end" air cooler that's less than 155mm tall.... This is the biggest drawback to the Antec "Gaming Series" One.... You can't find a "high-end" air cooler that will actually fit. I was interested in this tower until I saw that...
