Samsung intros 256GB SSD targeted at gamers

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 08/14/2009 08:48 AM | 0 comment(s) ]

Samsung has introduced their latest solid state drive (SSD), the 256GB FlashSSD, geared for gamers. The component is claimed to offer a five-fold improvement in data loading time compared to traditional hard drives, while running with lower power consumption.

The SSD utilizes a SATA interface and lists maximum sequential read rates of 220MB/s and write rates up to 200MB/s. Mean time before failure (MTBF) is rated at 1,000,000 hours, while the drive can handle operating shock up to 1,500G. Pricing information for the 256GB SSD has yet to be announced.
