Samsung and LG decide to end display tech patent dispute
LG Display and Samsung Display, the world's largest manufacturers of display panels have announced that they are ending a year-long dispute over LCD and OLED patents which has been the cause of a number of lawsuits.
Samsung released a statement saying “It was agreed that we two should focus more on cementing our leadership in the global market by cooperation, instead of engaging in all-consuming patent disputes'', while in a separate statement, LG claimed “What's most important for both of us is upgrading our competitiveness globally''.
A closer relationship between the two giants might very well help develop technology faster for the benefit of everyone, as long as they don't grow too fond of eachother and achieve something resemblant of total market domination.

Yep, finally. I hope others follow in that same way. Those recent lawsuits against everyone about everything are downright silly.

Not only silly but counterproductive and a burden to the customers. Remember, we're basically paying for these companies to fight a fight we didn't ask for. While I get the impression LG isn't quite as successful in the display market, I also get the impression both companies are just about equal when it comes to quality and desirable features.
I'm glad they're coming to their senses, but in reality, there needs to be some serious revisions to the patent system. There are way too many loopholes.
