Razer Releases Specs of "Project Fiona" Gaming Tablet

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/12/2012 09:21 AM | 10 comment(s) ]

Development of Razer's "Project Fiona" is ongoing and although we have doubt it will ever reach retail  CEO Min-Liang Tan posted its specs that were compiled after a lot of feedback from its Facebook community. The company even used the social networking site to gauge public interest to begin its development.

You spoke and we listened. We’ve compiled all of the feedback we’ve received from the crowdsourced questions and we’ve got the final specs for Project Fiona that YOU, the community, have chosen. Truly, this has to be the first gaming tablet that has been designed For Gamers. By Gamers.

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 or Core i7
  • GPU: Mid-range discrete GPU, brand not mentioned, should be sufficient for its 720p resolution
  • Size/weight: "about double the weight and thickness of an Apple iPad"
  • Detachable controllers
  • Prize: In the neighbourhood of US$1,299-US$1,499

At that price the product IMHO will never find its way to end-users.

I agree with you, with that price tag they won't be getting much positive attention. The product has some interesting features but they alone do not justify that high of a price. Specially if we consider that the performance isn't all that great. If they find a way to cut that price in half maybe then they'll see some real interest from the consumers.

Razer's price to quality ratio has lately erred on the side of insanity, but this price just takes the cake.

I'm thinking that Razer lost the race to make a gaming tablet, the concept just isn't unique enough now. However, if they instead made a universal bluetooth gamepad that could attach to any windows 8/android tablet, they could have themselves a real winner.
