Plextor shows TLC-based SSD at CeBIT

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 03/08/2013 08:24 AM | 0 comment(s) ]

Plextor was showing a new prototype of an  TLC NAND flash memory based solid state disk. This SSD is expected to be launched in August. TLC flash memory is cheaper than the MLC NAND flash memory that is typically used for SSDs, but it has a lower longetivity. The new Plextor SSD uses 19nm TLC NAND from Toshiba in combination with a Marvell 88SS9189 controlller.

The SSD will become available in three capacities, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB, respectively, and depending on the drive's capacity, the unit will include 256MB, 512MB or 768MB of DDR cache memory. The 128GB model will have read speeds of up to 530MB/s and write speeds of up to 360MB/s. The larger disks will have a read speed of up to 540MB/s and a write speed of 450MB/s (256GB) or 465MB/s (512GB). The company also mentioned that you can expect random 4k IOPS of 80,000 (read) and 72,000 (write).
