OCZ Vector PCIe Is Pretty Darn Fast !

Over at CeBIT OCZ is showing the OCZ Vector PCIe, the whole whopping 960 GB unit actually. The PCIe x4 (gen 2) slot based storage unit will be based on two controllers and will become available in 240, 480 and 960 GB versions. It's read/write performance is stated to b deliver 1000 MB/sec and random IO perf wise you are looking at a unit that can manage 140,000 IOPS. Photo's and info after the break.
The storage unit will be based on two Indilinx Barefoot 3 controllers. The Vector PCIe SSD Series is oriented towards power users as well as content creation and workstation applications where storage performance can bottleneck workloads.
The Vector PCIe SSD Series provides 4 lanes of PCIe Gen 2 throughput in full-height and half-height formats. OCZ specifies drive endurance at 100GB host writes per day for 5 years for the new PCIe SSDs.
How does give or take a GB/sec sound ? And mind you, this still is the prototype .. have a peek at the photo's we took at CeBIT.

That's the ticket right there... no 6Gb/s limitation, free SATA ports. Something to use my x4 slot for - like they were made for each other. Same speeds across all data types? Sold, when can I get it?

What's the big deal, any two new ssd's get better numbers in R0, and I would bet for a whole lot less money too.
That unit has two controllers so it comes in an R0 setup already.

Problem: We're still locked at 7 expansion slots. So let's consider: tril SLI, 6 slots, dedicated soundcard, 1 slot, PCIe SSD, ....oops, out of slots.
I guess we need a new formfactor for mainboards with 8-10 expansion slots. There are already a few cases that support that many. Of course that also means we need a platform that delivers far more PCIe lanes than the ones we have now.
Or they could deliver thaat special PCIe connector in place of the SATA ports already. Same speed, no expansion slot sacrificed.

True, but a PCIe SSD is for a very small percentage as well for now, it's equally expensive
