MSI preps nForce 980a SLI AM3 Motherboard

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 08/08/2009 08:34 AM | 0 comment(s) ]

Over at SAV computers they stumbled into another new motherboard for AMD Phenom processors, based on NVIDIA's nForce 980a SLI chipset.

Specifications look very much the same as for the older nForce 780a SLI, with one notable exception: Socket AM3 with DDR3 memory support and thus 3-way SLI.

The all new MSI NF980-G65 will bring a long awaited wish to AMD platforms, 3-way SLI. The NF980-G65 supports all Athlon II and Phenom II socket AM3 processors, including a new processor to be launched next week, check Guru3D.com for a review btw ;)

Other than that you'll see DDR3-2133 MHz memory capability. When looking at the motherboard we spot three PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots, two PCI-E x1, and two PCI slots. You'll spot DVI and HDMI connectors as nForce 980a SLI has an embedded GeForce 8300 IGP. Otyher than that we see six SATA II ports. Realtek ALC889 CODEC for 8 channel audio, Gigabit Ethernet, and the rest of the standard connectors.
