MSI H97 H87 and B85 will all get Devils Canyon Support

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 06/05/2014 09:03 AM | Source | 1 comment(s) ]

Following the BIOS releases from ASUS, MSI now brings word that all their H97 H87 and B85 motherboards will support Devils Canyon processors. Intel Devil’s Canyon processors (K-series of the Haswell Refresh with improved heatspreader/TIM) have been announced this week. Interestingly enough B85 was mentioned as well, which is not really intended for overclocking. Below the fold some screenshots of these CPUs in action on MSI motherboards.

The i7-4790K has a stock multiplier of 44  and thus the CPU reaches a Boost clock of 4400 MHz (likely on all four cores). They have an improved heatspreader & thermal insulation material in that CPU package that is going to cool these processors much better once you pump extra volts in them.

The i7-4790K will launch with a clock speed of 4.00 GHz and a Turbo Boost frequency of 4.40 GHz. The Core i5-4690K launches clock speed of 3.50 GHz, with Turbo Boost frequency of 3.90 GHz. According to new info it is expected that these CPUs would be capable of running at clock speeds of 5.00 GHz, on air-cooling.

The Pentium 20th Anniversary Edition / G3258  processor will feature an unlocked multiplier and be all about nostalgia on a modern CPU socket with tremendous OC potential.

If you peek at the screenshots you'll notice a i7 4790K on a B85-G43 overclocked to 4.5 GHz and a H97-Guard Pro motherboard with a  Pentium 'Anniversary Edition' G3258 at 4,5 GHz.

That's nice but what about their Z87 boards? You know the ones actually made and marketed for overclocking.
