Intel Ivy Bridge 10W and 13W CPUs Inbound

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/07/2012 09:03 AM | 8 comment(s) ]

Intel's Haswell is anticipated to introduce processors with a TDP of just 7W but before the new architecture arrives the chip giant will introduce five new Ivy Bridge based processors with TDPs between 10W and 13W. You can expect these new chips in Q1 2013. Apparently known as the "Y" series, these processors will show up in the first quarter of next year.

At the low end, the series will include a Pentium 2129Y with two cores, two threads, a 1.1GHz core clock speed, 2MB of cache, and a 10W "nominal" TDP. Neither Turbo Boost nor HyperThreading will be on the menu for that offering. The series flagship will be known as the Core i7-3689Y. That model will have two cores, four threads, a 1.5GHz base clock speed, a 2.6GHz peak Turbo speed, 4MB of cache, and a slightly higher 13W power envelope. Both the low-end Pentium and the high-end Core i7 will have a 850MHz graphics speed, but the i7's IGP is labeled "Intel HD Graphics 4000" in the spec sheet, while the Pentium's is just marked "Intel HD Graphics." The Pentium's IGP may simply have a few units disabled.

Now they should make them with low-power motherboards in mini-ITX and uATX form factor for home servers.

I lost it when I saw the title - I thought the 10 and 13 were die sizes.

Good to know that we're seeing a new launch soon though :D

I see some major throttling inc on them when using the IGP to keep them within the TDP.

When the "Flagship" has two cores and a 1.5GHz clock, I hope they're aiming much smaller than laptops.
