Intel Haswell to arrive in low volume until USB 3.0 issue is fixed

Intel Haswell to arrive in low volume until USB 3.0 issue is fixed

Intel will slowdown the ramp of its new Haswell platform until it has fixed a USB 3.0 issue in the Haswell platform that causes some relatively minor issues when a system wakes from S3 sleep mode with devices connected through USB 3.0. Haswell is expected to hit the market in June, but volume will reportedly be "cautiously low" until Intel rolls out a new revision that fixes the USB 3.0 problem.

“Haswell for desktop (Denlow platform) looks set to launch with cautious volume in June using the faulty C1 stepping, and then to see a stronger ramp once the glitch is worked out. Still, this is more than we had hoped for in June. Caution in Ivy Bridge units still likely to constrain gross margin for Intel and contacts point to August as the more significant launch period,” said JoAnne Feeney, an analyst with Longbow Research, in a note to clients, reports Tech Trader Daily.

Earlier this month it was reported that Intel began to inform its partners that when a PC system with Core i-series “Haswell” and 8-series chipset inside wakes from S3 sleep mode, it experiences issues with devices connected through USB 3.0. Intel seemingly defines the issue only as a nuisance for end users, as there would be no serious unpleasant consequences, such as data loss. A quick fix for the problem, which may result in blank PDF pages or failure to resume playback, is already known: a restart of applications. In order to solve the issues with USB 3.0, a new chipset revision is required.

And how do you know it didnt came from intel?

btw, all leaked roadmap slides so far were/are on track. And yes that leaked SB-e to IB-e was confirmed on other major sites.

And this just in, IB-E will be postponed to Q4 2013..
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20130308143302_Intel_Delays_Next_Generation_Core_i7_Extreme_Ivy_Bridge_E_Chip_Report.html

Anyway its not really important, this is not IvyBridge or Haswell-Enthusiast thread :P

Let me just close this up, nothing was officially confirmed from Intel about IB-E. Everything is based on "insider sources" and "leaked slides who authenticity cannot be confirmed".

Just look at the latest link you posted:
Instead of launching its new high-end desktop (HEDT) platform based on the Core i7 “Ivy Bridge-E” microprocessors in the third quarter, as indicated in the previous roadmaps, the world’s largest chipmaker decided to delay the release by one quarter, according to a report from Fudzilla web-site.

So I went over to Fudzilla:
Ivy Bridge E, Intel’s ultra high end chip that is set to replace the Core i7 3970X, has been delayed. It doesn’t look like it was anything major. Our sources tell us that the decision was made by Intel server guys who did not want to launch this chip in Q3 as originally indented.

See where I'm going at with this?

It's the same type of "sources" that said the new Exynos will have a T604 GPU on it, and then a day before the launch it was revealed that it was actually a 554MP3 (a completely different vendor!).

So never invest in a product based on rumors or "sources".

So? Think what you will :P

I have no doubt there will be IB-E too and Haswell-E won't see the light anytime soon.

I'm honestly curious as to how Haswell's IGPU will stack up against the APU's on AMD's side.

Is DDR4 expected to come out anytime soon for regular consumers so it can be paired up with Haswell?

Afaik it will begin with Broadwell but that can change.

I'll be skipping Haswell, there's little point to upgrade this year. I'll wait and see the quality of next-gen games/ports and decide if the hassle is worth it. My i7 920 and 460 SLI are still serving me well. I'm a bit worried about laptops, I was planning to buy one in the middle of this year and I don't want it to be defective :-/

Noctua needs to hurry up with their new coolers they showed at Computex 2012.

Else i'm gonna have to go with a NH-D14.

What Noctua needs to do is make a fan that isn't ugly (all black).

Or hell anything but their current colours.

My thoughts exactly. My i7 860 @ 4ghz seems to hold it's own just fine in even the most demanding games.

Now if I buy a second GTX 680, my CPU will definitely become the bottleneck.

I'm holding off until Broadwell at the earliest.

I don't personally see this "USB3 bug" as an issue since most people are using USB2 devices....and most case makers are still selling models with USB2 front ports...

Why? Their current color is what makes Noctua Noctua. If they make them black they will be just like any brand who just makes some Fans and Coolers.

Apart from that a Black Case + Noctua Fans can make for a cool looking scheme. For me the color never bothered me anyways cuz my Case doesn't have a window and stands underneat my desk.

Im set on Haswell, looks like I will be able to upgrade to Broadwell too :D

Intel’s LGA 1150 socket that will be introduced together with next year’s Haswell processors will also be compatible with the company’s upcoming Broadwell CPUs, which are expected to arrive in 2012 fabricated using the 14nm production node.

This information was unveiled by a recently leaked Intel slide that details the company’s 2013 Haswell processors and the Lynx Point chipset accompanying it.

According to this slide, the LGA 1150 socket that Intel plans to introduce at the same time with the successor of Ivy Bridge will also be compatible with the company’s 2014 desktop CPUs.

Even though most of us expected this to be the case, it’s nice to see a confirmation from Intel’s part.

This could be a problem for people like me who have USB3 external drives. I use mine for backups, transferring terabytes on USB2 would take forever.

There's actually a lot of people that want them in different colours because brown doesn't go with every build (a very limited number actually, black like you said which wouldn't be bad at all, and green). My build has white, black, and red in it, and I don't want to change my colour scheme to match my fans (rather it the other way around). It's a nice fan, so going with different colour schemes won't make them like any other brand, they'll still have the best efficiency around (throw a Noctua sticker on it and then people will know it's a Noctua). In my case, they're missing out on selling me 4 extra fans. Sure from one person, that isn't much of a loss... but a couple thousand is a considerable amount of potential profit.

They want to target back-to-school sales, Haswell is due by Q2 2013 to ensure that they can get computers with Haswell processors during back-to-school sales, that's when most people buy new laptops or desktops for school.

It's probably a biggest time for computer manufacturers to get sales because that's normally when people need to buy computers and printers for the new school year. By pushing the release further, they would miss this important target and the OEMs won't be happy since they don't have a new product around a new processor design to sell to the masses (it looks better in the marketing that there's a new processor design this school year).

Well you can always use it, just unplug it before you put PC to sleep. Not a big deal or is it? :]
