Intel Atom Briarwood Specifications Surface

Details about Intel's Atom "Briarwood", an upcoming line of SoCs for SBB and SAN based storage devices have surfaces. The chips share many similarities with Centeron, but have additional functionality and higher power consumption. Briarwood will start shipping in Q1 2013, pricing is unknown.
Briarwood SoCs will integrate two "Saltwell" Atom cores and a single-channel DDR3 memory controller. Atom cores will be clocked at 1.6 GHz on the S1269 and S1279 models, and at 2 GHz on the S1289 SKU. The cores will support Hyper-Threading and Virtualization technologies, and SIMD instructions up to SSE3. On-chip memory controller will support up to 8 GB of DDR3-1333 ECC memory. Some features, such as DDR scrambler and Memory scrubbing, will be incorporated directly into the memory controller. Another feature of Briarwood Atoms will be integrated quad-channel Crystal Beach DMA engine, which will support RAID 5, 6 and DIF. Integrated peripherals will include UART, SPI and SMBus controllers, legacy I/O components, and 32 lanes of PCI-e 2.0 on the S1269, or 40 lanes on the other two SKUs. Thermal Design Power of Briarwood SoCs will range from 11.7 Watt for the S1269, and up to 14.1 Watt for the S1289.

Not bad, if the pricing is good.
The single core atoms were never that good, but the dual core atoms seem to do just fine for the cost/performance/TDP.
Biggest problem i've had, was the platforms i want them in, were always overpriced for what you get. That and they can be a bit weak where you really want them, 1080p or higher playback, for home media centers.
