Google Could Launch a $99 Nexus 7 by the End of 2012

Google launched their affordable tablet the Nexus 7 in June and it immediately caught everyone’s attention because of its attractive price and good hardware. With Tegra 3 chip, an HD IPS display and a price tag of $199, its a must buy but Google might not stop just there. According to DigiTimes, Google and ASUS are working on two new slimmer Nexus 7 tablets with TN panels and they are set to launch it by the end of 2012 but the most amazing part of the report is the price of these tablets.
One of these will cost $199 and the other will be priced at $99 only; that’s half as the current Nexus 7. There isn’t any mention of the specifications of these new tablets or what corners Google will cut to offer the new slimmer tablet at just $99. Our guess is that it might be the Nexus 7 3G that was rumoured back in September and $99 price will be on contract. Again, this is just a supply chain rumor and you should take it with a grain of salt.

A TN panel on any small device is going to be too annoying for my taste.
No such thing IMO.
The Nexus 7 is pretty solid proof that the only reason phones are $600 is because that's how the market works in order to force people into extremely long contracts. 3 years, what a joke. The supposed manufacturing costs of $100-$200 for things with half the specs of a Nexus 7 sounds like nonsense. Even far before smartphones were common, "high end" phones which cost jack to make were still $600, at least here.
Speaking of 7 inch items... that's how big phone screens should be IMO.

See, I thought that too, my last laptop had an awful screen, inverting colours even when I viewed it straight on, but this time I made sure to get a good screen, and it had a viewing angle more than the norm. TN screens can be ok, as long as they put the money into it,but they'll always invert at high angles.

Agreed. I'm quite happy using my Samsung Galaxy Tab P6800 7.7'' as a phone...

I dunno if it's most TNs that invert colours at such angles or just those Samsung PVA panels. My last monitor labeled TN was a PVA, dunno why they do that.

All TN's I believe, just a flaw in the tech.

don't over-think it. They release a new/replacement model every 6 months these days. As long as you can do what you need the device to do its all good. The graphics card market is slow compared to this madness. Honestly if my 2006 n70 gave me normal internet access as today's phones do i'd still have absolutely no reason to get one. (I have a galaxy S which was considered amazing a year and a half ago and does more than everything i need it to do)
