GeForce GK110-based Consumer Graphics called "GeForce Titan"

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/21/2013 05:51 PM | 115 comment(s) ]

The long awaited GK110 GPU is currently in use for Tesla (K20 etc) cards equipped with up-to 2880 Shader / ALU processors. This GPU running at only roughly 732 MHz  to date has not been released for consumers, and we have been wondering for a long time now when it would make its way to the consumer market. Well, CeBIT is coming, Crysis 3 is launching in roughly the same time frame and boom .. all of the sudden this rumor pops up. Over at SweClockers the rumor circulates that the consumer end GK110 GPU might end up as a graphics card called "GeForce Titan". We don't have its exact dimensions but the chip itself packs 7.1 billion transistors and could be released late February.

We're not 100% sure what to think of it just yet though as the current fastest supercomputer in the world also uses name (Cray Titan, located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory). Next to that it would be kind of weird from NVIDIA to move away from the 'GTX' naming. Then again, you never know eh ? The GK110 silicon physically packs 15 SMX cores and 2880 Shader processors CUDA cores, it makes sense for NVIDIA to be able to divert from that and disable an SMX core for better yields, power consumption and so on.

Meaning the final product can very well end up with 2496 CUDA cores. The memory currently is clocked at 5.2 GHz GDDR5 over a 384-bit memory bus. It does have 6 Gb of it on the Tesla models.

The guesstimated MSRP currently stands at $899 -- But can it play Crysis 3 ? ;)

Nice timing if released shortly after Crysis 3, as that will serve as the main benchmark for reviews of this card.

of course it can play crysis 3 at absolute maximum details, it will be the only single gpu able to do it for 2013...it should only strangle at surround :)

AMD 's next single gpu offering will be able too also no doubt. But sure apart from those i agree, but why the ridiculous vram capacity?

Depends if EA launches Crysis 3 with high res textures and DX11. Or maybe they're just gonna f*** us again like they did with Crysis 2 and release a shoddy console port.

The Tesla K20 has 6GB of vram....if this rumor is true, the consumer model should see 3GB standard. Don't expect low power figures from it either....

Whoa, nope. And then imagine the price of say the MSI Lightning GK110. As much as I don't doubt it'll be a beast of a card I feel really guilty paying over 500 for hardware personally, thought that's not saying I don't envy you guys who do and can!

I hope they would start coming out with 6GB vram versions.

It wouldn't surprise me if the stupid name is the only accurate rumor on the 780.

I think most people don't realize based know size and power usage it isn't going to be as efficient as the 680. From the details I remember the 600 series was more dedicated gaming card, like how the 460 was compared to the 470/480. The card might have lots of shaders but it is going to have lots of unused transistors for gaming.

Unless you have money to burn, you would be better off waiting for next Gen. Which is why I think they are gonna use Titan name scheme, as it is a side consumer product not a traditional line.
