Crysis 3 - PC Graphics Comparison

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 02/19/2013 09:00 AM | 34 comment(s) ]

YouTuber ResetLoad has made a comparison between the various graphical preset options. ResetLoad used a Core i7 Sandy Bridge @ 4.5ghz with an NVidia Geforce GTX 690 and 8gb Vengeance RAM. Though admittedly, the YouTube movie is horrendously compressed. Ah well, fun to watch.

Superb video that shows how great the CryEngine 3 looks even on Low settings. Impressive. I like also that the game supports multiple levels of FXAA, SMAA, TXAA and MSAA, surely a first for a PC game? In this day and age of lacklustre console ports we're lucky if we get a low-quality FXAA filter!

I see no distinct visual difference between low and very high. I think they need to be pushing our systems harder :P

Watching youtube is very different, no matter how sharp your vid is, youtube will make it blurry/
@speed weed, no we're actually playing the game not watching youtube. :P

If you look, on Low and Medium you can see details popping into view more than on High or Very High. Also, the shadows are not as good.

Otherwise the difference between Low and Very High certainly isn't as huge and obvious as with other games. Tessellation and higher levels of ambient occlusion will be missing on lower settings too, although those are not always obvious in videos.

The one thing lacking from that comparison are human and enemy character models which might have highlighted the differences more as they use tessellation (to round off what otherwise would be 'blocky' heads for example).

I was hoping to see some giblets flying around, after Psycho had made good use of the Typhoon! ;)
Mind you, those Spring flowers are really pretty, and all that heavy breathing added a little je ne sais quoi to the proceedings. :)
