Call of Duty Elite Yearly Subscription Price Set
We already know all of the stuff that Elite provides players for free. As for the premium side, Elite can be subscribed to one year at a time for $49.99.
The most important feature is access to all of that year's downloadable content. Not only will subscribers get access, they'll own the content so it doesn't disappear should the subscription come to an end. Given that four DLC releases over the course of a year would normally cost $60, this is immediately a good deal for any frequent DLC buyers.
That DLC will consist of more than just multiplayer maps -- there will be new modes and Spec Ops missions, too, with "20 pieces of content" in all. This will all be coming more often than the four-times-a-year schedule that Black Ops used; Elite subscribers will get new content on a monthly basis over the course of a "nine month DLC season." Specific numbers for how many maps, modes, and so on weren't shared.
Besides all the DLC business, Elite subscribers get eight times as much storage for replay videos as free users, the ability to level up their clans by competing in tournaments, daily tournaments where they can win real-world and virtual prizes (badges, trophies, iPads, and Jeeps are all possible prizes), and access to Elite TV (premium episodic content being made specifically for Elite members).
The daily tournaments will be managed and refereed by real humans on a 24/7 basis so as to ensure there is no cheating. You won't have to be an expert player to compete, either, as there will be tournaments for players of different skill levels -- definitely good news for those who don't have enough time to devote to becoming an expert, high-level player.
As for Elite TV, Hirshberg mentioned two programs in the works. Noob Tube comes from Jason Bateman and Will Arnett's production company DumbDumb, which we had previously heard about, will see fan-made videos get a smack-talk commentary track added by Bateman and Arnett. The other new program is Friday Night Fights from Ridley and Tony Scott. It'll begin filming this fall in Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer and sees two opposites -- Red Sox fans and Yankees fans, Democrats and Republicans, etc. -- compete against each other.
