ASUS GeForce GTX 780 STRIX 6 GB Graphics Card

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 05/22/2014 08:56 AM | Source | 12 comment(s) ]

You have just read about the new Strix branding from ASUS, they just added a graphics cards under that branding as well. Check out the ASUS GeForce GTX 780 STRIX, this unit comes with 6 GB graphics memory and a sporty cooler. As you can see, the DNA of the DirectCU II cooler is there, but the design is a little bit more well .. let's call it military ?

The GeForce GTX 780 STRIX has your standards like 2304 CUDA Cores.  The GTX 780 is based on the GK110 GPU with the distinctions that the Titan has a GK110-300 GPU and the GeForce GTX 780 a GK110-400 GPU. Same stuff, yet with some things disabled. 2304 Shader Processing Units, 192 TMUs and 32 ROPs on a 384-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5.

The card comes with dual-DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs and will be available in two versions - one with stock clocks and one with an overclocked GPU.

ASUS has not released information on the clock frequencies just yet.

Don't know why they are bothering with the 280, its getting canned in about a month or 2, being replaced by Tonga.

Also 6gb is kinda pointless,

2 arent enough

you need at least 3 to run at reasonable fps @ 4k resolution and still 3gb can get away with it just fine, ie 780Ti SLI is faster because it has more power per core..

It is still a DCII cooler with little modification in fan speeds :)

I'm waiting for the 780ti 6gb to release. Hopefully not much longer. It was supposed to be a May/June release window.

While I like the looks of the card but I do not trust the 0db cooling that it has. I wouldn't trust silent cooling on idle on either card because if that feature malfunctions then your card is toast.

They were talking about only 780GTX in this time frame.

Dunno about Ti though, it looks like it got canceled for now, probably need to sell some more 3gb versions first..
