AMD to launch Radeon HD 8000 in 2Q13

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/03/2012 03:02 PM | 42 comment(s) ]

AMD reportedly plans to release its Radon HD 8000 series GPUs in the second quarter of 2013 as the company is currently going through a business reorganization to aid its poor performance in the third quarter, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. AMD originally planned to release the GPU series at the end of the fourth quarter to compete against Nvidia's products.

As Nvidia has been successfully gaining in China's discrete graphics card market, AMD's share already dropped to only 30% in the market and it is aggressively trying to launch the Radeon HD 8000 series to regain its momentum. To counter AMD's advance, Nvidia is also set to release enhanced version of Kepler GPUs in 2013. Meanwhile, for the ARM-based processor market, Nvidia is set to release Tegra 4 (Wayne) in the first half of 2013 and the chip will also be showcased at CES 2013. As for Icera communications chips integrated on the Tegra SoC (Grey), the product will appear in the market in the second half of 2013, at the earliest.

You question heffeque?! Obviously he knows more about GPU prices in Spain than you do. I mean sure, you LIVE in Spain, but... and yeah that's not even the right card... and... :wanker:

I stand by what I said. I hope AMD makes a killer 8000 series, don't know how and why all the fuss about my opinion... whatever

ok then, let's see. Pick the cheapest site in Spain, which is Pccomponentes.
7950 vs 660ti and 7970 vs 670, because of the price segment.

http://www.pccomponentes.com/sapphire_radeon_hd_7950_3gb_gddr5.html

and

Really?
That's pretty amazing, I've personally had ATI for years just because they are cheaper fps/€, certainly would go for nVidia if it would've been like this.

And your examples don't exactly show your claim to be true....

That's a 7870 not a 7970...

It's clearly a typo: 7970 GE and 660 are clearly not equivalent in any way and the link is clearly a 7870 GE card.

Heck, he even posted a pair of "more or less" equivalent cards with the same price!

I stand by what I said: it's not true that in Spain ATi cards are more expensive than nVidia cards.

And no, I don't live in Spain anymore. My location clearly says "Brazil".

And no, PCcomponentes isn't the cheapest online store. It's just one of the cheapest.

I stand by what I said. I hope AMD makes a killer 8000 series, don't know how and why all the fuss about my opinion... whateverAnd your examples don't exactly show your claim to be true....

Exactly.

I'm not a fanboy of either, but I'm also leaning toward this opinion.
Not only had ATI better fps/€ back when I got my 5870 and even when I got my 4850, but after checking prices here where I live, and benchmark results, the 7970 is better than the 670, even though they are around the same price (also like that spanish dude linked).
I don't see how nVidia is better if we consider raw fps/€ (of course it's benchmark dependent)

Lol, ok didn't catch the sarcasm... ;)
I didn't say that one is better than the other, I just said that AMD never had a big and clear lead on Nvidia and I would love to see that. It would be great for us, the buyers.

And please tell me where to buy cheaper, this is not me mocking you, I would love to buy cheaper!
btw: Alternate has closed shop here in madrid.

Alternate was actually one of the ones I was going to comment on.
Also Pixmania usually has good prices too, and... believe it or not, Amazon.es can actually have good deals too.

I know of people complaining about Pixmania, but my experience with them and my friend's and family's experience with them has been always good. Same thing with Amazon (my mother buys from them continuously).

What I generally do is check on Google Shopping and order by total price (shipping included). Example: http://www.google.es/products/catalog?q=nvidia+660&hl=es&safe=off&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bpcl=39580677&biw=1920&bih=955&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=14529266365026122779&sa=X&ei=OES-UI3BNYfs9ATUn4CACg&ved=0CFgQgggwAg#scoring=tps

It usually gives interesting results, and thanks to it I discovered PowerPlanetOnline. The theme is kind'a childish, but their business is serious and some of their products are priced quite nicely. Oh, and their price ALWAYS include shipping (I like that).

ok good to know thanks
I knew Alternate already but they only beat PcComp in SSD drives, the rest is 5-10% more expensive...
