AMD Radeon HD 7700 and 7800 cards price drops

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 10/08/2012 05:22 AM | 19 comment(s) ]

It was to be expected in anticipation of the GeForce GTX 650 (Ti) release. AMD's Radeon HD 7700 and 7800 series graphics cards keeps dropping. It's not an official price cut, but rather AMD's partners lowering their prices. Starting today, AMD Radeon HD 7850 1GB costs $159 (after rebate), whereas the 2GB version carries $189 official price-tag. The AMD Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition graphics board now has manufacturer suggested retail price of $119.

AMD and its partners specifically reduced price of sub-$200 graphics boards to improve positions in the most popular segment of graphics boards.

I just might be able to afford a HD 7850 now. Honestly I havent seen a worthy card to upgrade too that wasnt over $200+ at the minimum since I have bought this card. I paid $160 for it 2 years ago. Hell I didnt get an upgrade over my 4870 performance wise but I did go from 512 to 1gb vram and alot better power consumption plus dx11.

Specially if the 650 TI dont match the 7850. They was a big gap between 7770 and 7850, look like the 650 - 650 TI just hit in the middle of the gap.

This price should just make the card more appealing.

At the same time, thoses cards are out since a while now 7-8month and we slowly approach the end of the year.

If you feel GTX460 is fine dont upgrade.

Wait for even more price drops, maybe even GTX660 ti? ;)

I'm tempted to get another 7750 but I don't really like crossfire (or SLI).

Better scaling in production? There could be a lot of reasons, but I think they just want to have the competitive edge against NVIDIA.

I was very close in getting the NVIDIA GeForce 560 compared to the Radeon HD 6870 when I was looking to buy a new graphics card in summer 2011 but the local computer stores here suddenly dropped the price of the Radeon HD 6870 and it was enough to automatically got me to get this card, the price for performance was a lot better than NVIDIA GeForce 560, sure it doesn't beat it in everything, but for the most part it's on par or best it.

Companies know that many people rather save money if it means sacrificing a bit of performance for it.

Only reason to hate them, is if you bought them early....and are now trying to get rid of them for some reason...
