Okay, a bit weird. This weekend AMD pulled the AMD Catalyst 14.4 WHQL driver from their download portal. Today they have reposted the drivers yet slightly altered. A contemporary note from AMD states that the reason behind this was that some AMD motherboard chipset drivers included in the suite wmade some AMD systems instable. This seems to have effected the southbridge AHCI driver primarily, from selected AMD chipsets.
The problem applies to very specific AMD southbridges in the Series 7 range:
It seems that newer generations of AMDs southbridges with SATA 6 Gb/s controllers and FIS switches (SB850, SB950, and A-series FCH chipsets) do not show issues.
AMD rebuilt the suite without the troublesome driver as posted today. If you ran into issues, you might want to install an older build for the chipset drivers.
