Acer working on laptops with 2880 x 1620 pixel resolution

Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/11/2013 09:44 AM | 7 comment(s) ]

Acer revealed at CES that it will take on Apple's MacBook laptops with new laptops with ultra-high resolution screens. The company has several models in the works, including at least one Ultrabook, these systems are anticipated to be launched by late Spring.

A handson experience with an Acer laptop prototype with a 2880 x 1620 pixel IPS LCD display and the reporter writes it looked gorgeous. Acer didn’t say which laptop models would offer the display, but the company did indicate that the higher-resolution panels would be available on several different systems as a high-end option. Laptops aren’t the only place Acer is looking to increase screen resolution, though. Acer also makes PC displays, and its 23-inch and 27-inch Windows-certified multitouch displays have been flying off store shelves. According to the company, demand has been so high that Acer had to raise the price to better manage limited inventory. Acer noted that it was looking to bring non-touch ultra-high-resolution LCD monitors to the market later in 2013.

Christ, and I thought 1080p on a 15" screen was bad, need to wear glasses to see it.

What's annoying is that most of these companies are putting out high resolution displays, which is nice, but they aren't properly calibrated so the colors are usually way over-saturated, they suffer from backlight bleed, consistency problems, etc. I'm kinda glad Apple pushed this on here though, 300+DPI should be the industry norm.

Pixels per inch setting is a magnificent thing.

Then I lost screen space by everything being bigger.

Oh the conundrum.

Usually I just set the resolution to 720p/768p.

So you don't like more sharper image? With higher PPI you could get aliasing free images in games too without using any form of AA.

In a game I would put it at the highest, they usually scale text and stuff, this is just using windows and internet.

The screen is rarely used though, mostly it's my tv.
