4.69 percent of Steam users run Windows 8

The latest update to Valve's Steam usage statistics reveals that 4.69 percent of Steam users were running Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system in November. As The Next Web points out, that's quite a good figure for the few weeks that Windows 8 has been on the market. Despite harsh comments from several game developers, including Valve's Gabe Newell and Minecraft developer Mojang, gamers seem to have no qualm upgrading to Windows 8.
For a nascent and controversial operating system, that figure is hardly poor. OS X, for example, across all its listed versions, controls but a mere 3.26% of the Steam market. Steam, a massively popular gaming platform and store for PC gaming, is a key component of the larger game market.
That Windows 8 has managed to snag nearly 5% heading into the holiday seasons may imply that by the end 0f Q1 2013, Windows 8 could account for a firm 10% of the Steam usage base. As you certainly expected, Windows 7 retains the largest piece of Steam usership: 72.56%.
ARS Technica on the other hand analyzed the more general web usage statistics from Net Marketshare and found that 1.09 percent of web users were using Windows 8 in November 2012. The new Internet Explorer 10 doesn't seem to be an instant hit though, only 47 percent of Windows 8 users stick with IE10, much less than the 60.0 percent of Windows users overall that use a version of Internet Explorer.
In November, Internet Explorer remained king in the desktop browser market with a marketshare of 54.76 percent, while Firefox climbed back up above 20 percent. Chrome on the other hand dropped 1.31 percent to 17.24 percent, but according to Net Applications part of this drop can be attributed to the exclusion of Chrome's pre-rendering data. The research firm estimates that 11.1 percent of all Chrome pageviews are a result of pre-rendering, where Chrome renders pages that aren't currently visible just in case the users wants to see them. These pageviews are now no longer included in the statistics.

Steam is acting weird in windows8, its sluggish (scrolling the games list, opening options).. Fullscreen mode is fast.
I think it started when steam said it needs one service for windows 8 & when i installed new 310.70 driver.
Anybody else noticed this?

For starters, My Win8 laptop is one of those 4.69% Win8 installations. I wish I could roll it back without having to do a fresh install. I am sure there are others in this 4.69% who share the sentiment.
Also my new Zenbook which I formatted and installed Win 7 on is included in this 4.69% I believe.
With the thing crashing every now and then and running slower than the stable Win 7 installation it replaced, Yea I do need to...
And I am not even complaining to whine about that ribbon metro start menu. I have been quietly ignoring that one as a price for my mistake of downgrading to Win 8.

Again, this has nothing to do with the thread in any way. It's just your attempt to hijack the thread and turn it into a "Why I don't like Windows 8" thread. The only purpose of this thread is to show how many users on Steam are now using Windows 8. If you don't like Windows 8, we have thread(s) that cover that.

Roll back to windows 7 from windows 8 ? Roll back ??? what ? Ya know it's very easy to just while your in windows 7 admin then disk drives and simply create a new partition and install windows 8 on that partition. Then you simply have a duel boot computer and choose which os you want to load up. I have 4 different os's on mine and of course windows 8 is one of them but I simply can't get into it because of the lack of start menu. Windows 8 to me is slow to get around and if you don't have a touchscreen just useless for the most part.

wow, the world really is going to end.....
Welcome to the dark side
Well I've gotten kind of tired of the old layout and it's nice to have something new and refreshing. There are a few minor things that'll need a work around though :p

Crashed once for me whilst clicking on "resume update" for Metro 2033 which was meant to convert the content to a newer more efficient format. Since then I haven't used it. Windows 7.
I'm sure there's a thread about it a few days back where other users have mentioned crashed, take a looky?
