Building a new Guru3D Test PC ... Project X
By Hilbert Hagedoorn, November 15, 2008 - 7:00 PM N/A

So with Intel's Core i7 platform taking over PC land by storm, we figured .. it would be a nice idea to design a completely new test-system for graphics cards. X58 as you guys know can support both SLI and Crossfire, allowing one PC to test both. We figured, let's make a new system and go a little crazy.

So the guys over at Smooth Creations decided to help us out by handling a custom paintjob. I wanted, blue Guru3D colored flames with our logo stamped in there, with a black coating. And so they made that happen on this new Silverstone chassis. This week the chassis came back from the USA (towards Europe) and I have started building the new PC yesterday. It's so good that I didn't want you guys to wait on a completely article we'll do covering the design stages and paintjob over at Smooth Creations.

  • Chassis - Silverstone Temjin TJ-10 aluminum
  • Motherboard - ASUS X59 Rampage II Extreme ROG
  • Intel Core i7 965 @ 3750 MHz
  • Memory - OCZ DDR3 6 GB 1600 MHz
  • PSU - 1200 Watt
  • 2x HDD
  • 1x Optical drive

Now this is the chassis in early stages. We still are seeking a proper water-cooling block for Core i7 as this system screams H20 really. Likely next week I'll have a nice full article covering all ins and outs of this new rig as at this moment, I'm still building it. After that we'll need to stability test it, then tweak and then write down every system BIOS setting to preserve consistency during the timeframe we'll use the rig as test-platform.

So what do you guys think about this chassis ?

Guru3D ProjectX
A little over exposed, colors are a bit off here but you get the idea.

Guru3D ProjectX
80% finished - still need to do wiring properly and align lighting - but you can get the general idea here ...
