Extra delay for the USB 3.0 technology is holding up its launch into the massive market due to many compatibility issues. First of all, Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers claim that companies have not yet passed the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) certification, thus original release timetables are off the plan for 2010. Secondly, the major problem seems to be the Windows 7 operating system, that doesn’t natively support the 3rd generation of USB technology. Of course, there is a lot’s of effort from beta testers, but the hardware still remains buggy.
Although AMD is already working on USB3, Intel offers a new hope announcing the addition of their USB 3.0 host controller into their Cougar Point motherboard (reference design at IDF 2010). And last but certainly not least, another well-known company, ASUS has already purchased 15 million units of USB3 from NEC for 2011 to 2012 year production.
Things are in motion... truth to be told; USB 3.0 is very much anticipated and seems that companies are in orbit of placid reconciliation.
